Ravens Softball Update
Ravens softball hosted Winfield-Mt. Union on June 8th facing one of the best pitchers in the State. Winfield came out strong in the top half of the first inning plating 5 runs. Hillcrest then settled in defensively led by Junior pitcher, Leah Bontrager, battling tough for the Ravens inside the circle not allowing another run and scattering 3 hits over the next 5 innings, before Winfield added 4 runs in their half of the 7th inning and winning 9-0. The Ravens collected hits from incoming freshman Malia Yoder and senior Meredith Blossom in the loss. Leah Bontrager ended with 3 strikeouts on the night.
Hillcrest then turned around and travelled to West Burlington/ND in a Wednesday matinee contest against the Top 5 ranked team in Class 3A. West Burlington continued the theme of putting pressure on Hillcrest early with 9 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. However, Leah Bontrager and the Ravens defense continue to show their grit by not allowing another run the next 3 innings before West Burlington finally punched a run through in the 5th to end it 10-0. Senior Sarah Miller gathered the lone hit for Hillcrest in the contest.
On Thursday the 10th, Hillcrest was back on the road to SEISC North Division rival Columbus on an evening that included heat and humidity. The Hillcrest offense threatened early in the top half of the 1st inning with a 1 out single by Senior Madeline Fox, but failed to punch her through and stop the threat. Columbus then turned around in their half of the inning to put 6 runs on the board and finished the contest with a 12-0 victory.
After a lengthy delay due to Junior-Senior class trip, the Ravens will be back on the diamond on Thursday, June 17th, as they host conference rival Lone-Tree with a JV game starting at 5:30pm with the Varsity game to follow.
