Hillcrest Academy returned home to Hillcrest Union Friday after four road games, and following a slow start, used a 10-0 run to gain a 16-6 lead after one period before cruising to a 65-27 win over Columbus. The Ravens outscored the Wildcats 21-7 in the second period to take a 37-13 lead into half-time. Hillcrest led 51-17 with three minutes to play in the third, as reserves played the rest of the way.

Eli Ours drilled seven threes in eight attempts and led the way with 25 points for Hillcrest, as 10 players got in the scoring column. John Hughes scored 12 points, Grant Bender had five, and Aaron Hershberger, Will Kolck and Aidan Yoder each scored four points. Noah Miller, Josiah Beachy, and Jace Rempel each scored three points, and Aiden Krabill completed the scoring with two points.

Hughes and Hershberger each pulled down six rebounds and Miller had five. Miller dished for five assists and Ours, Bender and Luke Schrock had three assists apiece. Krabill, Bender, Hughes and Beachy each picked up two steals. The Ravens shot 54 percent from the field for the evening.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said, “It was great to see us move the ball well, and to see the shots fall. The guys are sharing the ball, and I thought we had an improved effort on the defensive boards, and doing a much better job of limiting them to one shot.”

Hillcrest Academy goes to 8-4 in conference play and 10-5 overall, and next plays Friday at Pekin.
